International Academic Exchange

The 2023 Asia-Pacific Association for International Education (APAIE) conference, the first large-scale education conference in the Asia-Pacific region to resume physical meetings since the pandemic, was held from March 13 to 17 at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center in Bangkok, Thailand, and was hosted by Mahidol University.

This year, 32 universities and higher education institutes in Taiwan, along with Academia Sinica—totaling 70 representatives—participated in the exhibition. The Taiwan booth, coordinated by the Foundation for International Cooperation in Higher Education of Taiwan (FICHET), demonstrated dis tinctive and beautiful mountainous landscape, unique wildlife, and cultural imagery a deep blue color background through sky lanterns, Taipei 101, Formosan black bears, and sika deer to showcase the "Study in Taiwan" higher education brand. Through the exhibition booth and lectures, the delegation aimed to convey Taiwan's excellent academic research, faculty and student exchange, and studying environment to over 2,000 representatives from nearly 60 countries attending the conference.

Represented by Deputy Dean of Office of International Education, Professor Mike Ma and Allen Lee, Coordinator of Academic Exchange Center, Office of International Education held discussions with 46 university representatives and five education institution representatives, totaling 79 people during the three-day exhibition period. Among the 46 universities, there were 23 sister universities and 23 non-sister universities. Among the non-sister universities, two schools, including the University of Queensland (UQ) in Australia and the University of Northern Iowa in the United States, were willing to sign a double-degree agreement, and 17 universities were willing to sign a university-level cooperation agreement, with a signing intention rate of up to 83%, demonstrating the importance of Fu-Jen's international image.The National University of Malaysia is about to complete the signing of a university-level cooperation agreement. The discussions covered a wide range of topics, including school-level issues such as various hardware and software facilities, teaching methods, various new changes, and fu ture development during the pandemic.
